We are broadening the horizon by installing and maintaining privately owned weather cells and LoRaWAN base stations, both on and off the grid. These low-power high-frequency hotspots facilitate sensor communication allowing GPS tracking down to a few meters, even where there's no cell service. This new form of asset tracking and communication will provide countless useful applications to what we do: and that is doing the most we can to keep you safe in the air and on the ground. We are XC Chase Service, welcome to our site. Please reach out if you'd like to learn more!

This is a developing service but we'd like to go ahead and introduce ourselves. We're XCCS, a full day free flight chase and retrieve service for Colorado pilots. We are a growing community of Colorado pilots with a specific skillset.
We hope you like our site and take a minute to drop us a line!
No same day service, visit our FAQ for more info.
Our Chasers are experienced pilots equipped with AWD vehicles, long range HAM radios, a Garmin In-Reach, binoculars, wind indicators, Wilderness First Aid Certification, and supplies, as well as a cooler packed with drinks and snacks. We're prepared for the long haul, and are equipped to handle most anything the day could hand us.
We'll do the very best we can to keep tabs on you to minimize your wait time upon landing, but due to the unpredictable nature of back country driving and forest services roads, we are unable to make any guarantees on time. However, you have our word, that as fellow pilots we understand the nature of these retrievals and have no lack of appreciation for the increased danger from exposure that arrives upon landing. It's our goal to be underneath you to watch you land, but in the instance we aren't there yet, know our Chasers are going to every length to get to you.
We are currently observing all social distancing guidelines due to Covid-19, and are requiring all Chasers and passengers to remain masked while in the vehicle, and to maintain at least 6 feet of distance when unmasked outside. Thanks ahead of time for your understanding!
HG Pilots: We are currently working on a hang glider rig for our Jeep, in the meantime we'd be happy to chase in your truck if you've already got HG transport setup.
- The introductory minimum rate is $60 for a single pilot, full-day Chasser et Récupérer, (Chase and Retrieve) within these metrics:
Driving: Under 100 kilometers round trip (from pick-up, to launch, to retrieval, and home)
Landing: Within 2km of access road
[View our Driving Fee Format below our FAQ's]
We do the best we can as Chasers, and we know you will as the pilot in command, but we all know sometimes things don't go according to plan. Trying to stay within these parameters allows us to provide more immediate services allowing you to benefit the most from our chase. That price is subject to change only based on the criteria of your flight plan, you will NOT be socked with hidden emergency fees or otherwise if things go South. We know no one goes out trying to create an emergency scenario, so we don't intend to capitalize on one shall it occur. (SAR Disclaimer- If you're in an accident, we will use your Garmin In-Reach to notify Search and Rescue, you will likely receive a bill from them.)
*Availability Disclosure: In an ideal world, this would pay the bills, however we're currently balancing our availability between working our day job. Please reach out as early as you can in the event you'd like to try our services, we'll do our best to take off work and be available, currently we're only free on the weekends. Thanks ahead of time for your understanding!
We'll host a consultation via Skype before your flight to establish your experience and certification level, discuss the gear, weather, and flight plan for the day, as well as establish contingency plans for instances that may occur outside your plan. Your Chaser will monitor the weather along your tracked location and provide you with updates whenever possible and necessary.
All-Day service means we've set aside our entire day for your flying, so we're not weighing the value of bailing for other potential clients. This service is all inclusive, uniquely providing the specific needs of back country flying. Plus we doubt your Uber driver will photograph/film your landing and cheers you with a victory drink! Why is this better than a rideshare service? Because it's not one!
That can be expected, it happens to everyone. You aren't being charged for distance covered until we breach 100km, so we'll be happy to help you try again. Our chase only begins in earnest when you break an agreed upon and established geo-fence, at which point we'll assume the chase is on! So if what our service means to you is laps all day at Lookout, we've got you covered! (Group deals for local lapping! $50 for one pilot, then only $10 per additional pilot. Which means $80 gets 4 pilots a whole day of car trips to the top, plan and split accordingly! Anyone trying to break some mini-wing or speed-wing lap records?)
We like to secure a deposit the day you book once your appointment is confirmed (50% your Chase Fee, electronically via Paypal or Venmo). Then we finish up payment the day of your flight. We'll resume cash payments as soon as we're all vaccinated, we promise!
Our Chasers are prepared to handle some seriously demanding First-Response scenarios. If you've suffered an incident, know we're on the way to you, 911 has been called, and we'll take the best possible care of you. If a fellow pilot other than yourself suffers an incident, we understand the call to action, and will adjust our day to collaborate with you an effective SAR to accommodate your companion. Safety is our primary concern.
We all aim for green pastures, but sometimes we're not as lucky. If you've found yourself up in a tree, DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR HARNESS. Radio or phone us if you're able, hopefully we had eyes on you. It won't be fun and it may take a while, but we've got all the equipment we need to safely top out a 50ft tree to help release you and your glider. We've got the patience and expertise to disconnect and store your lines to facilitate a more feasible retrieval of your wing. We're happy to help, but this tedious favor will come at an additional fee of $50 an hour. This goes for shrubs and bushes as well! Our Chasers are paid by distance not time, please be considerate when taking flight risks. Chasers will take the absolute best care possible, but are not responsible for retrieval damages to tree-bound equipment.
We've got the gear, and it's right up our alley. If you've safely made it down and want help getting your gear out, we're happy to assist with that as well. The primary kink to hammer out here will be our availability. If your gear is lodged in a tree some where, shoot us a message ASAP. If we've got the time, we'd be happy to come help you out however we will need to charge for the day to make it worth our time. $60 + $50/hr. spent to retrieve your rig. $110 may be a steep minimum, but you may find that's merely a fraction of what other arborist's charge. We have limited physical mechanical equipment and our tree retrievals will be limited to trees that can support our climbing weight. In rare circumstances, in especially tall or spindly trees, SAR retrieval will be required to have a chopper with a ropes crew come pluck your gear out. [Expensive, but it's been done] We are unable to offer refunds for unsuccessful tree retrievals, but you have our word we are absolutely dedicated to you, your gear, and the tree's preservation in the event you call on us.
Our Chasers are equipped with 5G wireless and Satellite tracking equipment. We will be using XC-Track side by side a Garmin In-Reach Explorer+, and a 65w mobile HAM radio to keep the closest tabs possible. It is mandatory for satellite tracking and I.C.E. that you fly with a Garmin In-Reach. Copy and paste this link to see what that will look like when we go to set that tracking up:
https://hikingguy.com/how-to-hike/how-to-find-the-location-of-an-inreach-device/
As far as launching is concerned, for the time being, yes. But destination? Go as far as you possibly can, by all means! If we're chasing you and wind up in Wyoming, there's a slim chance you made it there without planning on it, so be sure to discuss your flight plan with us in terms of the very-best-case-scenario, so we're prepared with food, gas, or otherwise. In the event you'd like to schedule a flying trip near or far, we would be happy to discuss pricing and accommodations. If you love what we do, and want us to join you, let's make it happen!
Our Chasers are Colorado pilots like many of you, and have seen their fair share of Colorado Launch sites. We'll be happy to take a hike with you to launch if necessary, to ensure a safe launch, as well as provide site orientation anywhere we've got sufficient beta to do so. No, we won't carry your gear up, but we'd be happy to carry a tarp down if you've brought one.
We currently only service designated launch sites than can be accessed legally. As for landing, keep track of your location and be sure to have closely examined private property lines along your planned route. We can orchestrate a rescue in emergency scenarios, but will avoid crossing private property lines unless absolutely necessary to save a life.
We are proud to offer our services to pilots visiting Colorado from all around the globe. We're simply paying homage to the origins of our sport by using French phrases, and using the metric system makes things a whole lot easier for all non-American pilots (most pilots)
Quick conversion: [100km is about 62 miles, 100 miles is around 160km.]
Been getting a lot of retrieve requests, we're glad folks are considering us! Without going into the logistics of why that's a complicated request, we would like to forgo the need to tell a dozen pilots every bomber day that we can't come help you, and instead iterate here that we are a chase service. No one would be stepping on our toes creating a cross country retrieve service, that's simply not our business. We offer a unique service that consists of a whole lot more than just a ride. When you book a chase with us you're hiring a first responder with climbing equipment to drive beneath you, prepared to pluck you out of a tree and save your life, which hopefully doesn't happen to you... But it does happen. We are in the group chats so we know when a bomber day is coming just like you do, reach out to us the day before, you won't regret it. Our ground time is just as valuable as your air time! Booking a chase minimizes your wait, and maximizes your safety.
We are located in Denver for the time being, which puts us 45 kilometers (About 30 miles) out from the closest hills, consider the drive to Boulder and Golden launches on the house. So pilots located elsewhere, you'll get the first 45km of our commute to pick you up on the house to make that make sense. Distance covered after that comes out of the included 100km out-and-back (About 62 miles, so 31 miles each way) and beyond that is just 15 cents a kilometer.
We expect 50% of your estimated chase fee as a deposit to hold your reservation. In the event you were overly optimistic, you'll only be charged for the ground we do cover, and you'll be refunded the difference. As the crow flies (you) will cover less ground than we may have to. We'll be going by our odometer reading

We currently only have one Chaser (myself), the distances driven will be relative to the pilot/driver Chasing. Currently the service is well suited for Front Range pilots, but the further you are up in the hills, the more it'll cost. As more pilots express interest, and begin to pick up retrieves in the Chaser chat, orchestration can begin being worked on by proximity, so be sure to spread the word! [90% of the chase fee goes to the driver, 10% goes to XCCS for R&D and site maintenance.]
How much is peace of mind worth to you? Tax included in the $60, so is road snacks (Bottled water, chips, crackers, fruit gummies, etc.) as well as our non-professional photography. Let us know what your recreational beverage of choice is, and for cost we'll be sure to hit the store before we pick you up so you've got a victory sodie, or a few! We'll cheers you with a Topo-Chico when you land. Contact us regarding any food allergies or special requests as soon as possible so we can modify your menu. [If you land out deep, (>2km) an additional fee of $30 an hour may be applied to the bushwhacking portion of your retrieve.] Fee format subject to change.
For the pilots seeking distance, without the burden of wondering how you'll get home. The sky's the limit!
One pilot matched with one Professional Chaser, planning and coordination of a full day of top notch chasing, including 100km driven after your pick-up. We'll cover all the bases as we prepare.
Company makes all the difference. Bring your friends with you for 25 bucks a head, split the bill. Meet up before hand, we'll pick you all up from 1 location. (Limit 4 pilots)
If you land more than 2km from an access road regardless of whether you need assistance, an additional fee of $30 hr. for the bushwhacking portion of your retrieve will be applied to your chase. Please try your best not to land deep.
If you land in a tree, bush, or shrub, we can assist in a safe rescue and/or retrieval taking our best care to preserve the integrity of your body and equipment and charge $50 hr. for this service.
*These additional fees also apply to Lap-Day chases.
Flying Party Disclaimer- Driving limitations require coordination of pilots to land within 25km gross radius of one another, and within 2km of an access road each, so if you're getting low, communicate promptly. Please plan accordingly or risk a considerable wait! Priority retrieval goes to emergency first, primary booking pilot second, and guests third. Don't get left out!
For those itching for quantity, let us help you achieve those lofty goals!
Full Day lapping service for a single pilot at any Colorado Drive-Up Site. [First 145km from Denver are included, 15 cents a KM beyond that.]
Only 10 bucks per additional pilots on a local lap flying day, due to decreased stress and demand on the Chaser. Take advantage and try to get the most out of your day. Meet up before hand, we'll pick you up from 1 location. (Limit 4 pilots)
Lap Day Disclaimer- If your friends are faster than you, you may be left between laps. We'll wait 10 minutes for the last pilot to catch the ride up. If you miss it, you'll have to wait 'til the next trip! This goes for all pilots, including the primary booking pilot.
Tanner McMullen was certified on the Elings Park training hill in Santa Barbara, CA with Christopher Grantham. Returning to Colorado to acquire their P3 with Misha Banks in Boulder, CO. Greg Kelley has also been a mentor, and assisted Tanner in bagging a few flights at Wolcott, hours long just 2 weeks after completing their P2. Those long flights created an insatiable itch to get taller, and go further.
An amateur photographer and cartographiliac, Tanner drafts the itinerary and shopping list for the retrieves, and keeps a close eye on the tracking tech while chasing. Certified in Wilderness First Response, you'd be in good hands given an incident.
You'll likely find Tanner's partner Jacqueline in the driver's seat. Jacq is not a pilot, but is an amateur photographer and an adventurer like Tanner, and provides an additional element of perspective and safety during our chase, as well as some essential company during the long drives underneath our target pilot. A travel companion, and extra set of eyes, allows Tanner to focus on GPS, maps, compass, satellite tracking equipment, etc.
In the instance Jacq is unable to join, you can still trust Tanner to deliver the same results solo.

Our clients expect the best, so be sure you're in it to win it. Provide us with your USHPA rating and number, your level of medical training, and what makes you great chase material. (We can orchestrate a Wilderness 1st Aid course for you through Red Tail Paragliding, the cost is $300. Limited scheduling and availability.)
Pay and hours not guaranteed and subject to booking, availability. Flexibility not only desired, it's required.
You may not break even on gas, or you may make away well. Our goal is to provide the pilots in the sky with peace of mind, a stress free day of free-flight that can only come when they know they aren't being rushed, and that they are being taken care of. It is our hope the experience and connections you gain through providing your time chasing feels like it's own form of compensation on top of the money. Because let's be honest, if all we cared about was money, we wouldn't be flying.
